Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM), initiating

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) activates the following components in the specified sequence:

1. Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80-

2. Secondary Air Injection (AIR) solenoid valve -N112-

3. Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump relay -J299-

4. Wastegate Bypass Regulator Valve -N75-

5. Leak Detection Pump (LDP) tank ventilation system

6. Recirculating valve for turbocharger -N249-

7. Cylinder 1 fuel injector -N30-

8. Cylinder 3 fuel injector -N32-

9. Cylinder 4 fuel injector -N33-

10. Cylinder 2 fuel injector -N31-

Special tools and equipment 

Test requirements

NOTE:
  • Output Diagnostic Test Mode is only possible with engine idle and ignition switched on.
  • Output Diagnostic Test Mode is aborted if engine is started or an RPM signal is recognized.
  • In output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM), individual actuators are activated until the next actuator is selected by pressing the → button.
  • Actuators are checked either acoustically or by touch.
  • To repeat output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) without letting the engine run briefly beforehand, switch ignition off for approx. 2 seconds.
  • The electric Fuel Pump (FP) runs during all of output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM).
  • Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) is terminated after 60 minutes.

Activating Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80-: 

Output Diagnostic Test Mode →
EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80

Indicated on display

Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve must click until next actuator is activated by pressing the → button.

If valve does not click:

LED must blink.

LED blinks:

Refer to 20 - FUEL SUPPLY

LED does not blink:

Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ω

If no malfunctions are found in wire:

Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ω

If no malfunctions are found in wires:

Activating secondary AIR solenoid valve -N112-: 

Output Diagnostic Test Mode →
Secondary Air Injection valve -N112

Indicated on display

Secondary Air Injection (AIR) solenoid valve must click until next actuator is activated by pressing the → button.

If valve does not click:

LED must blink

Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ω

If no malfunctions are found in wire:

Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ω

If no malfunctions are found in wires:

Activating secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump relay -J299-:

Secondary Air Injection pump relay -J299

Indicated on display

The Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump relay activates the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump motor and this runs in intervals until the next actuator is activated by pressing the → button.

If the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump motor -V101- does not run in intervals:

LED must blink.

LED blinks:

Refer to 26 - EXHAUST SYSTEM, EMISSION CONTROLS

If LED does not blink, but the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump relay does click: 

If no malfunctions are found in wire:

NOTE:
  • Remove battery Ground (GND) strap if tools are necessary for removal of relays or control modules from the relay carrier.
  • Obtain radio code for radios with anti-theft coding before disconnecting battery.

If no malfunctions are found in wire:

If voltage supply is OK:

If LED does not blink and Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump relay does not click:

NOTE:
  • Remove battery Ground (GND) strap if tools are necessary for removal of relays or control modules from the relay carrier.
  • Obtain radio code for radios with anti-theft coding before disconnecting battery.

LED must blink.

LED must light up.

LED does not light up:

LED lights up:

If Fuel Pump (FP) does not start up:

Activate fuel injectors (-N30-...-N33-):

Injector cylinder 1 -N30

Indicated on display

Cylinder 1 fuel injector -N30- must click five times.

NOTE: Fuel Pump (FP) must run and the flowing noise must be clearly audible at the fuel pressure regulator. If Fuel Pump (FP) does not run, check activation.

Refer to 20 - FUEL SUPPLY

If one of the fuel injectors is not activated (does not click):
