- Remove engine cover.
- Remove discharge hose on secondary air injection pump motor.
NOTE:
- Press the buttons on the hose couplings together.
- Remove windshield wiper arms and cowl: Refer to 92 WINDSHIELD WIPER & WASHER SYSTEM
- Connect Adapter cable, 121 pin VAG 1598/31 to control module wiring.
- Switch ignition on.
- Bypass jacks 3 + 46 on test box using auxiliary cables from Auxiliary measuring tool set VAG 1594 A.
Air pump motor should run and air should be coming out exhaust nozzles.
If the motor is running, but no air is coming out:
- Switch ignition off.
- Replace Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor V101.
If the motor does not start:
- Disconnect 2-pin connector from motor - arrow -.
- Connect Voltage tester VAG 1527 B to disconnected attachment plug using auxiliary cables from Auxiliary measuring tool set VAG 1594 A.
LED should illuminate.
If the LED illuminates (power supply OK):
- Turn off ignition.
- Replace Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor V101.
If the LED does not illuminate:
- Clip on 2-terminal attachment plug.
- Start output diagnostic test mode and trigger Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Relay J299 : Refer to 01 ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD)
- Check DTC memory: Refer to 01 ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD)
- Read readiness code: Refer to 01 ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD)
- If DTC memory was erased or engine control module was separated from positive voltage supply, readiness code must be regenerated: Refer to 01 ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD)
