Valve stem seals, replacing: Removing

- Remove camshafts, refer to Camshafts, removing and installing
- Remove valve lifters (do not interchange) and place aside with running surface facing down.
- Remove spark plugs with spark plug socket and extension 3122 B.
- Bring piston of each applicable cylinder into "Bottom Dead Center" (BDC) position.

- Insert Valve assembly device 2036 and adjust bearing arrangement to stud bolt height.
- Screw flexible pressure tubing VW 653/3 into spark plug thread and provide continuous pressure (min. 6 bar).
- Remove valve springs with valve lever VW 541/1 A and press tool VW 541/5.
NOTE:
- Loosen binding valve keepers by applying light hammer blows to the mounting lever.
- Remove valve stem seals using puller 3047 A.
