Coolant thermostat, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Drip tray V.A.G 1306
• Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
• Hose clip pliers V.A.G 1921
• Anti-freeze protection tester

Removing 

• Drain coolant. Refer to Cooling system, draining and filling  .

• Disconnect coolant hose from connecting piece - 2  -.
• Remove bolts - 1  - from connecting piece - 2  - and remove connecting piece - 2  - with coolant thermostat - 4  -.
• Turn coolant thermostat - 4  - ¹ / ₄ turn (90 ° ) left and remove it from the connection - 2  -.

Installing 

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

• Moisten new O-ring - 3  - with coolant.
• Insert coolant thermostat - 4  - into connection - 2  - and turn right ¹ / ₄ turn (90 ° ).

• Insert connection - 2  - with thermostat - 4  - into engine block.

• Tighten mounting bolts - 1  -. Torque specification: 15 Nm
• Fill engine with coolant. Refer to Cooling system, draining and filling  .
