Oil pan, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
• Flat scraper
• Silicone sealant D 176 404 A2 

Removing 

• Install center noise insulation pan, along with left and right sides: Refer to 50 BODY, FRONT
• Drain engine oil.
• Remove oil pan.
• Loosen oil pan with light blows from a rubber headed hammer if necessary.

• Remove sealant residue from cylinder block with a flat scraper.

• Remove sealant residue from pan with a rotating brush, e.g. a hand drill with a plastic brush attachment (wear eye protection).
• Clean sealing surfaces. Sealing surfaces must be free of oil and grease.

Installing

• Cut off nozzle on sealant tube at front mark (nozzle approx. 3 mm diameter).
• Apply silicone sealant D 176 404 A2  , as shown, to clean oil pan sealing surface. Sealing compound bead must be:

• 2 to 3 mm thick
• and run on inside of bolt holes - arrows  -

• Apply silicon sealant D 176 404 A2  to clean sealing surface as indicated in illustration. (The fig. shows location of sealant bead on cylinder block.)
• Install oil pan immediately and tighten all oil pan bolts lightly.

• Tighten oil pan bolts to 15 Nm.
• Tighten oil pan/transmission bolts to 45 Nm.

The rest of assembly is in reverse order of disassembling sequence.
