Test sequence

- Connect Scan Tool VAG1551 ( VAG1552 ) and select engine electronics control unit with the "Address word" 01. When doing this the engine must be running at idling speed. (Connecting Scan Tool and selecting engine electronics control unit → Scan Tool VAG1551 , connecting .)
CAUTION:
If test equipment is operated from the front seat and vehicle is involved in an accident injury may result. Secure Scan Tool to rear seat.
Indicated on display:

- Press buttons 0 and 8 for the function "Read measured value block" and confirm entry with Q button.
Indicated on display:
| Read measured value block Enter display group number XXX |
- Press buttons 0 , 0 and 9 for "Display group number 9" and confirm entry with Q button.
- Preform road test with a 2nd person to observe display.
Observe the valid safety precautions when carrying out a road test → Safety precautions .
- Observe figure displayed in display field 3 when changing into 2nd gear:
Read measured value block 9 →
3240 rpm 4.8 mg/h 50.0 mg/h
Specification: Briefly less than 51.0 mg/h
NOTE:
- Data transfer is slow, it is possible that the display of the specification is delayed.
- Press the → button.
- Press buttons 0 and 6 for the function "End output" and confirm entry with the Q button.
- Switch off ignition.
If the specification is not obtained:
- Connect test box VAG1598/31 to control unit wiring harness.
- Check wiring from engine control unit to gearbox control unit for open/short circuits. → Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations
