Coolant fan, checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Connector test set V.A.G 1594C
- Wiring diagram
Test conditions
- Main fuses must be OK.
- Coolant Fan Control (FC) Thermal Switch F18 OK
Test sequence
- Disconnect 3-pin connector from coolant fan control (FC) thermal switch F18.
- Bridge terminal - 1 - and terminal - 2 - of the connector using adapter wires from connector test set V.A.G 1594C. Stage 1 of Coolant Fan V7 and Right Coolant Fan V35 must start running.
- Switch ignition on.
- Bridge terminal - 2 - and terminal - 3 - of connector using adapter wires from connector test set V.A.G 1594C. The Coolant Fan V7 and Right Coolant Fan V35 must start running.
If 1st or 2nd speeds of fans do not run:
- Determine and eliminate open circuit according to electrical schematics: Refer to Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations
If no fault is detected in the wiring:
- Replace Coolant Fan V7 or Right Coolant Fan V35.
