Engine, installing

Installation is performed in reverse order. Note the following:
- Check clutch release bearing for wear, replace if necessary.
- Lightly grease clutch release bearing, release bearing guide sleeve and splines on input shaft with grease G 000 100 .
- Check whether dowel sleeves for centering engine/transmission are in cylinder block and install if necessary.
- When installing assembly, ensure sufficient clearance to axle shafts.
- Align engine and transmission mountings refer to Engine and transmission mountings, aligning .
Tightening torques, refer to Assembly mountings .
- Install axle shafts: Refer to 40 FRONT SUSPENSION
- Install front exhaust pipe, refer to Exhaust system components, removing and installing .
Vehicles with manual transmission 02J
- Install hydraulic clutch slave cylinder: Refer to 30 CLUTCH
- Install shift mechanism and adjust cable mechanism if necessary: Refer to 34 MANUAL TRANSMISSION - CONTROLS, HOUSING
Vehicles with automatic transmission
- Install selector cable on transmission, adjust if necessary: Refer to 37 - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - CONTROLS, HOUSING
Continuation for all vehicles
- Install power steering pump: Refer to 48 STEERING
- Reconnect pipe between charge air cooler and intake connecting flange at intake connecting flange.
- Reconnect electrical connections and check routing: Refer to 97 WIRING
Vehicles with air conditioning
- Install air conditioning compressor: Refer to 87 - AIR CONDITIONING
Continuation for all vehicles
- Install poly V-belt. Refer to Poly V-belt, removing and installing .
- Install center, left and right insulation trays: Refer to 50 BODY, FRONT
- Fill with coolant. Refer to Coolant, draining and filling .
- Road test vehicle and read fault memory. Refer to Engine control module fault memory, reading and erasing ; Reading and erasing fault memory of engine control module.
