Checking and adjusting
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 27 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Check the regulator pressure with the vehicle emptied of cargo and all occupants except the driver, but with a full fuel tank and spare tire.
- Raise vehicle and connect pressure gauges to left front caliper and right rear brake caliper or wheel cylinder.
- Bleed both gauges.
- Lower vehicle and bounce rear of car several times.
- Depress brake pedal to obtain specified pressure at front axle, then read pressure at rear axle:

CAUTION:
DO NOT adjust the pressure regulator with the brake pedal depressed.
- Release brake pedal.
- Adjust regulator spring tension.
- If test pressure is too high: decrease spring tension
- If test pressure is too low: increase spring tension
- Recheck regulator pressures and re-adjust if necessary.
- Disconnect pressure gauges and bleed brakes.
