Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, erasing

- Malfunction repaired
- Test-drive car for a road test of at least 10 minutes duration. While test-driving:
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) must reach at least 80°C (176°F)
- Engine Speed (RPM) must reach at least 4600 RPM
- The Accelerator Pedal must be fully depressed, briefly reaching the Wide Open Throttle position at least once
- In 4th gear, starting from approx. 50 km/h (30 mph), accelerate for approximately 4 seconds using half-throttle (Accelerator Pedal pressed halfway down)
- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) with VAG 1551/3 adapter harness.
- Start engine and let idle.
Operate VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) according to information and instructions on the display:
- Press button -1- for "Rapid data transfer" operating mode.
- Enter address word 01 for "Engine Electronics."

- Press buttons -0- and -2- to select "Check DTC Memory" function.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.

- Press --> button until all DTCs still stored have appeared, and the Scan Tool display reads as shown.
- Press buttons -0- and -5- to select "Erase DTC Memory" function.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.

- Press --> button.

- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End Output" function.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.
- Repeat the road test, at least 10 minutes duration:
- Engine Coolant Temp. at least 80°C (176°F)
- Engine Speed (RPM) to at least 4600 RPM
- Wide Open Throttle at least once
- Accelerate at half-throttle in 4th gear, for at least 4 seconds
- Check DTC memory again.
- No DTC recognized
