Cooling system, draining and filling: Filling

CAUTION:
If the radiator, heater core, cylinder head or cylinder head gasket is replaced, do not reuse old coolant. Dispose of old coolant properly.
NOTE:
- The cooling system is filled with a mixture of water and anti-freeze that includes corrosion protection agent G11, designed for year-round use.
- G11 and coolant additives marked "in accordance with TL VW 774 B" help prevent frost and corrosion damage and formation of chalk, and raise the boiling point of the coolant.
For these reasons, the cooling system must be filled year-round with anti-freeze and corrosion protection agent. Due to the higher boiling point, the coolant is an aid to operational efficiency when the engine is operating at high loads, particularly in warm climates.
- Use phosphate-free coolant-antifreeze, Part No. ZVW 237 102, whenever replacing or adding coolant.
Recommended coolant mixture ratios:

- Press top radiator hose down.
- Fill with coolant up to max. mark on expansion tank.
- Start engine. While running at idle, add coolant up to over-flow connection on expansion tank.
- Place cap on expansion tank.
- Run engine until Coolant Fan -V7- comes on.
- Check coolant level and top-up if necessary.
Coolant level:
- Engine at normal operating temp.: up to max. mark
- Engine cold: between min. and max. marks
