Crankshaft, removing and installing

The following list pertains to Fig 1.
- Main bearing cap
- Main bearing cap 1: vibration damper end
- Main bearing cap 5 with recesses for thrust washers
- Bearing shell retaining lugs in cylinder block and main bearing caps must be on the same side
- 30 Nm (22 ft lb) plus additional 1/2 turn (180°)
- Always replace
- Additional 1/2 turn (180°) may be done in two steps of 1/4-turn (90°)
- Main bearing shells 1 -7
- Without oil groove: for main bearing cap
- With oil groove: for cylinder block
- Do not interchange used bearing shells (mark positions before disassembly)
- Thrust washer
- For main bearing cap 5

- Reconditioning is not permitted
Axial clearance:
- New: 0.07 -0.23 mm (0.0028 - 0.0091 in.)
- Wear limit: 0.30 mm (0.0118 in.)
Check radial clearance with Plastigage®
- New: 0.02 -0.06 mm (0.0008 -0.0024 in.)
- Wear limit: 0.10 mm (0.0039 in.)
Crankshaft dimensions:
- Main journal: 59.958-59.978 mm (2.36055 -2.36134 in.)
- Connecting rod journal: 53.958 - 53.978 mm (2.12433-2.12512 in.)
CAUTION: DO NOT rotate crankshaft when checking radial clearance. - Reconditioning is not permitted
- Sensor wheel
- For Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor -G28-
- Always replace
- 10 Nm (7 ft lb) plus additional 1/4 turn (90 °)
- Always replace
- Thrust washer
- For cylinder block, main bearing 5
- Note installation position
- Oil spray nozzle
- Mounted near crankshaft main bearings 2 -7
- For piston cooling
- Opening pressure: 2.0 bar (29 psi)
