Test sequence

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 25 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Switch ignition on.

Fuel pump must be heard to run briefly.

If the fuel pump does not run:

Switch ignition off.
Connect VAG1348/3A remote control with VAG1348/3 adapter cable -2- between relay contact -4- and battery positive voltage (B+).

Operate VAG1348/3A remote control.
If OK:
Check control of fuel pump relay -J17-. See appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM article.
Replace fuel pump relay -J17-.
If NOT OK:
Remove luggage compartment floor covering.
Disconnect harness connector from fuel tank flange.
Connect VAG 1527 (or US1115 LED tester) to outer terminals of connector using adapter cable from VW1594 adapter kit.

Operate VAG1348/3A remote control.
LED must light up.

If NO:

Check for open circuit using wiring diagram.

If OK (LED lights up = voltage supply OK):

Remove screw cap with tool 3217.
Check whether electrical wires between flange and fuel pump are connected.

If no open circuit can be found:

Replace Fuel Pump (FP) module.
