Test sequence

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 25 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Clamp distance piece -1- between accelerator pedal -2- and stop -3- and hold accelerator pedal in this position.
a = 15 mm

Adjust accelerator pedal cable by moving clip (arrow) at stop until throttle valve is fully open (WOT).
Release accelerator pedal.

Connect multimeter VAG 1526 (Fluke 83 or equivalent) with auxiliary cables from VAG 1594 to Kickdown switch -F8-.

Measure resistance on switch.
Specified value: Infinite Ohm (no continuity)
Slowly depress accelerator pedal past kickdown pressure point.
- Resistance must drop to 0 Ohm (continuity).
- Accelerator pedal must be close to the stop.
