Functional check

Check EVAP canister. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM, CHECKING, VEHICLES UP TO 1996 .

NOTE: During the EVAP canister check the open condition of the EVAP canister purge regulator valve is also checked.

If vacuum does not build up:

Connect VAG 1598/18 test box to Engine Control Module (ECM) wiring harness.

Using VW 1594 adapter kit, bridge the following test box sockets: 1 + 9 and 1 + 31
Operate VAG 1390 hand vacuum pump (or US8026) several times.
- Vacuum must build up

If vacuum does not build up:

Replace EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80-.
