Checking/adjusting V -belt tension, belt drive without tensioning pulley:

Vehicles with 1.8 liter, without A/C
NOTE:
It is not necessary to check and adjust the poly - ribbed belt tension on engines with tensioning pulley. Optimal belt tension is assured by means of the integral spring-loaded tensioning device.
- Loosen Generator (GEN) securing bolts.
- Insert tensioning lever 3297 and secure with locking pin.
- Swing Generator (GEN) down (use e.g. torque wrench as drive for 3297). Push Generator (GEN) as far as stop at least three times to ensure optimal ease of operation.
- With the Generator (GEN) loosened, let engine at idle for at least 10 seconds.
- Tighten Generator (GEN) to 25 N.m (18 ft lb).
