- VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) and VAG 1551/3 connected (Function 04)
- Engine temperature at least 80° C (176° F)
- A/C OFF
- Ground (GND) connections OK
- Battery Positive Voltage (B+) OK
- Exhaust system OK (no leaks)
Before performing the emission and idling test, refer to notes on, refer to EMISSION AND IDLING TEST, GASOLINE ENGINE .
- Connect VAG1367 ignition tester with VAG 1367/8 trigger clamp or VAG 1767 ignition tester.
- Connect VAG 1363 A CO tester with VAG 1363/3 adapter to the CO tap tube (where applicable).
- Detach hoses for crankcase breather from pressure control valve and seal hose opening to intake valve -arrow-.
- Start engine and run at idle.
On VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST):
- Press button -1- for "Rapid data transfer" mode.
- Press buttons -0- and -1- to enter address word 01 for "Engine Electronics" and press -Q- button to confirm input.
- Press --> button.
- Press buttons -0- and -4- to select "Basic setting" function 04, and press -Q- button to confirm input.
- Press button -0- twice to enter display group number 00, and press -Q- button to confirm input (the digits appearing in the display are of no significance for this test).
- Check ignition timing at 2000-2500 RPM.
