Front Wiper/Washer System

- Ensure fuse No. 5 (15-amp) is okay. Ensure wiper arms are in park position. Remove wiper/washer intermittent relay, stamped with production control number "19" or "99" (depending on equipment options), from relay position No. 8.
- Remove rear window wiper/washer relay, stamped with production control number "72", from relay position No. 2 (position may vary on station wagon). Install Test Adapter (VAG 1466/5) into relay position No. 8. Connect Electrical Circuit Tester (VAG 1466) to test adapter.
- Using wiring diagrams, perform trouble shooting procedure following instructions in trouble shooting tables. See Fig 2 and Fig 3. If specified values/test results are obtained, go to the next test step shown across top of table. Disconnect test leads from electrical circuit tester after each step.
- If specified values/test results are not obtained, check item(s) listed in "Possible causes if specified value/test result is/was not obtained" portion of tables. If malfunction has not been eliminated after performing test steps, replace wiper/washer intermittent relay. After repairing malfunction(s), check wiper/washer system for proper operation.
