Electronic anti-theft system (Sound System), activating

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 27 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The electronic anti-theft prevention system is not pre-activated on new radio units.

Anti-theft system is not activated until the proper code number is entered.

NOTE:
  • The code number for the anti-theft system is listed along with the radio serial number on the radio card.
  • If a radio is replaced, the code number from the replacement radio must be used.
  • Customer must be informed of new code number if it has been changed.

    Refer to User Manual

  • During activation, do not attach scan tool or leave scan tool attached.
WARNING: For security reasons the radio card should never be left in the vehicle.

Radio displays "SAFE" and then "1000." No button inputs are required.

If code number has been entered into the radio correctly, the diode on front of the radio must blink when the key is removed from the ignition. If the diode blinks, the radio is operational and the anti-theft coding is activated.
