Shim -A-, determining

Install all components (items -2- through -16-) into transmission housing to adjust planet carrier, see PLANET CARRIER, ADJUSTING .

Insert screwdriver through hole of large sun gear to loosen and tighten bolt for small input shaft.

Install small input shaft bolt -1- with washer -2- but without shim. Tightening torque: 30 N.m (22 ft lb).
Install dial gauge in VW 382/7

Adjust dial gauge with top of gauge positioned on bolt head center with 1 mm preload.

Zero dial gauge.
Move small input shaft up and take reading.
Example: Reading 2.00 mm
Specify thickness of shim according to table and determine Part No.
