Anti-theft immobilizer, On Board Diagnostic (OBD) (from May 1999) (Cabrio only): Notes

NOTE:
The following description of On Board Diagnostic (OBD) is only valid for immobilizers of the 3rd generation and only apply to the Golf Cabriolet from May 1999.
The electronic immobilizer consists of the following:
- a control module for immobilizer
- an adapted Engine Control Module (ECM)
- an induction coil at ignition lock
- and adapted ignition keys with electronics (transponder / read memory response).
NOTE:
Ignition keys for 3rd generation immobilizers are marked with a "W3"! For more reliable differentiation, always use the function "check control module version". See VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST), connecting and selecting functions (check control module version) .
The control module for anti-theft immobilizer -J362- is located at right next to the steering column behind the instrument panel. It is equipped with DTC memory.
