VAG 1551 Scan Tool, connecting and selecting functions

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 27 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Requirements:

All fuses OK according to wiring diagram.
Supply voltage OK. (at least 9.0 V).

The Data Link Connector (DLC) is located in center of instrument panel, above ashtray.

(Cabrio only)

Fold storage compartment below left side of instrument panel down.
With ignition off, connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool with cable VAG 1551/3.

NOTE:

If display remains blank, check VAG 1551 voltage supply according to wiring diagram.
Additional operating instructions can be called up with the VAG 1551 HELP button.
The --> button serves to advance program sequence.
In operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer" function 00 "Automatic test sequence" is performed. Then all vehicle Control Modules are checked automatically.

Switch on ignition.
Switch on printer with Print button (indicator lamp in button illuminates).
Press button -1- for "Rapid data transfer" mode.

Press buttons -2- and -5-. "25" enters address word "Immobilizer".

Confirm entry with -Q- button.

By pressing the "HELP" button a list of possible causes is printed out.
After correcting malfunctions, enter address word 25 again for immobilizer and confirm with -Q button.
Press --> button.
