Ignition keys, matching (adaptation): Notes

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 27 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
  • If new or additional ignition keys are required they must be matched to the Immobilizer Control Module.
  • Note procedure when changing lock set and Immobilizer Control Module.
  • Ignition keys for immobilizer system are marked with "W."
  • The matching procedure must be used for all ignition keys, including existing ones.
  • The number of keys already matched will be displayed when adaptation (matching) function is selected.
  • The adapting (matching) procedure can be interrupted by pressing the -C- button on the VAG 1551.
CAUTION: The VAG 1551 dealer number will be stored in the Immobilizer Control Module when matching ignition keys.
