WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 27 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Condenser and radiator are clean, spray clean if necessary
- Condenser and radiator air ducts properly installed, unobstructed
- Do not expose vehicle to direct sunlight when performing A/C system cooling output check
- Blower -3- runs in all 4 speeds
- Engine speed at approx. 2000 RPM
- Instrument panel air vents open
- Set ventilation control knobs as in Fig 1.
A/C switch -E35 - ON, "Max" button -4- pressed
- Compressor must run
- Check components and functions using INSUFFICIENT A/C COOLING OUTPUT (1993 M.Y.) table:INSUFFICIENT A/C COOLING OUTPUT (1993 M.Y.)
Components Specified function and check Remedy if specified function not obtained 5 - Temperature flap - Temperature flap -5- must make audible contact when temperature control knob (center) is turned back and forth to full "cold" position (Air flow through heater core -6- blocked)
- Adjust temperature flap control cable
7 - Footwell/defrost flap - No air flow from defroster or footwell vents (-9-,-10-)
- Adjust control cables
- A/C control head gear faulty, replace A/C control head
8 - Central flap - No air flow from defroster vents -9-
- Adjust control cables
- No air flow from footwell vents -10-
- A/C control head gear faulty, replace A/C control head

- Check fresh air/recirculating flap two-way valve -N63- according to wiring diagram
- Vacuum servo -13- retracted (vacuum applied)
- Check vacuum hoses and connections, refer to VACUUM HOSE LAYOUT
- Once above tested components check OK, check A/C system cooling performance: refer to A/C SYSTEM COOLING PERFORMANCE, CHECKING .
