Over-center spring, removing and installing: Removing

- Disconnect clutch cable from transmission, see CLUTCH CABLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Remove lower left driver side trim panel, see FRONT DOOR TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Remove cover from below pedal cluster (foam rubber section remains in vehicle).
- Remove relay panel from retainer.
- Remove protective plate from between relay panel and pedal cluster as follows:
- Remove electrical wires from retainer (arrow -1-).
- Press clips (arrow -2-) toward pedal cluster.
- Press protective plate up toward instrument panel (in direction of arrow -3-) until it can be removed from its mounting.
- Remove protective plate, pulling it downward.
CAUTION:
Be careful to not damage the wiring.
- Insert screwdriver between steering column and clutch pedal and place it on over-center spring.
- Depress clutch pedal and pry over-center spring from pedal in direction indicated by arrow.
