VAS5051 tester, connecting and selecting "Engine Electronics" vehicle system 01

All functions previously performed with the VAG1551/1552 can also be performed using the new VAS5051 tester via operating mode vehicle self-diagnosis:

Special tools and equipment 

• VAS 5051 tester

Test requirements 

• Fuses no. 5, 10, 13, 28, 29, 32, 34 and 43 must be OK.
• Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 volts.
• Ground (GND) connections between engine and chassis must be OK.

Work procedure 

• Connect VAS5051 tester using VAS5051/1 or VAS5051/3 diagnostic cable as follows:

• Connect diagnostic cable connector to Data Link Connector (DLC).
• Depending on the desired function:

switch on ignition

or

start engine. Refer to Selectable functions when using VAG1551/1552 or VAS5051  , table "Selectable functions".

Refer to Operating instructions for the VAS 5051 vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system.

Indicated on display

Select operating mode: 

• Press button for "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis" on display (arrow).

Indicated on display

Select vehicle system: 

• Press "01 - Engine Electronics" on display.

Display will indicate the control module identification and the coding, e.g.:

If coding differs from vehicle version:

• Check control module coding. Refer to Code control module (scan tool function 07)  , Code Engine Control Module

Select diagnostic function: 

At this point, all diagnostic functions are available.
