Valve stem seals, replacing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Adjustable rod 2036
• Slide hammer 3047 A
• Seal driver 3129
• Valve spring lever 541/1A

• Thrust piece 541/5

Removing 

(with cylinder head installed)

• Remove camshaft. Refer to Camshaft, removing and installing  .
• Remove valve lifters and place on contact surface when setting down. Be careful not to switch valve lifters.
• Move piston for respective cylinder to Top Dead Center (TDC) position.

• Install adjustable rod 2036 and adjust mounting to stud height.
• Remove valve springs with valve lever 541/1A and thrust piece 541/5.

• Remove valve stem seals using slide hammer 3047 A.

Installing

• Place supplied plastic sleeve - A  - on appropriate valve stem. This prevents new valve stem seal - B  - from being damaged.
• Insert new valve stem oil seal into seal driver 3129.
• Grease lip of valve stem oil seal and carefully slide onto valve guide.
