Cylinder head, removing and installing: Installing

NOTE:

Always replace cylinder head bolts.
Carefully remove residual sealant from cylinder head and cylinder block. Make sure that no long scrapes or scratches result. When using sand paper, grit must not be below 100.
Thoroughly remove all sanding and grinding residue.
Only unpack new cylinder head gasket immediately prior to installation.

Handle gasket carefully. Damages to the silicone layer and in areas of recesses may result in leaks.

Before installing cylinder head, position crankshaft to TDC marking.
Turn back crankshaft in opposite direction of engine rotation until all pistons stand almost evenly below TDC.
Set cylinder head gasket in place.
Install cylinder head, insert cylinder head bolts and hand tighten.

Tighten cylinder head in sequence indicated, in four stages as follows:
1. Tighten using torque wrench: Stage I = 40 Nm Stage II = 60 Nm
2. Tighten further using a solid wrench: Stage III = ¹ / ₄ turn (90 ° ) Stage IV = ¹ / ₄ turn (90 ° )

NOTE:

There is no requirement to retighten the cylinder head bolts after repairs.

After fastening cylinder head turn camshaft sprocket so that the lobes for cylinder 1 point upward equally. Before installing toothed belt, turn crankshaft in engine rotation direction to TDC.
