Drive pinion housing, removing and installing: Notes

* Adjustment work is necessary when replacing these parts → adjustment overview → Adjustment overview (rear final drive)  .

1 - Cylinder bolt, 10 Nm

2 - Cover

• For drive pinion housing
• In aluminum covers, with additional seal: Different versions of drive pinion housing cover 
• In plastic, with additional vulcanized seal: Different versions of drive pinion housing cover 
• Allocate according to transmission code via Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA) → Code letters, allocation, ratios, capacities 

3 - Seal

• Always replace
• Allocate from different materials via Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA)

4 - Oil filler plug, 30 Nm

5 - Magnet

6 - Gasket

• Discontinued for plastic covers

7 - Hex nut, 45 Nm

• Insert with locking fluid D 197 300 A1
• Always replace

8 - Drive pinion housing * See note

• Removing
• Installing
• Servicing bearing for shaft bevel gear → Bearing for shaft bevel gear, servicing 
• Allocate via Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA)

9 - Oil filter housing

• Tighten to 35 Nm

10 - O-ring

• Always replace
• Coat with oil for Haldex clutch when inserting

11 - O-ring

• Always replace
• Lubricate with transmission fluid before installing
• Replace → O-rings for cover / rear axle housing, replacing (final drive installed) 

12 - Shim S ₃

• Note thickness
• List of adjustments → Adjustment overview (rear final drive) 

13 - Rear axle housing * See note

• Clean pin bolt threads of locking compound when securing drive pinion housing.
