General notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Volkswagen R32. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Gear set must be very carefully adjusted to ensure long service life and smooth running of bevel gear transfer case set. Therefore, shaft bevel gears and head bevel gears are already paired with each other during manufacture and checked for good mesh pattern and low noise. The position for quietest running is obtained by moving the shaft bevel gear axially and, at the same time, maintaining the backlash within the specified tolerances. Only replace gear set (shaft and head bevel gear) together!
