Work sequence
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2006 Volkswagen Golf, 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, 2005 Volkswagen Golf, 2004 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2004 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Connect Scan Tool (ST) VAG1551 ( VAG1552 ) and with "Address word" 01 select ECM (with engine idling), Scan Tool, connecting → Scan Tool VAS5051 , connecting .
Only when engine does not start:
- Turn on ignition.
- Switch on Scan Tool printer with print button. Indicator lamp in button must illuminate.

- Operate Scan Tool (ST) and follow information on display:
- Press buttons 0 and 2 for function "Check DTC memory" and confirm entry with Q button.
Number of DTC stored or "No DTC recognized!" will be as shown.

If one or more DTC are stored:
Stored DTCs will be displayed and printed out one after another.
After stored DTCs have been printed out, display will appear as shown

- Eliminate the printed out DTC using the DTC table → DTC table: VAG codes .
- Afterwards erase fault memory → Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, checking and erasing
If no fault is stored:
- Press → button.

- Press buttons 0 and 6 for the function "End output" and confirm entry with Q button.
- Connect Scan Tool (ST) VAG1551 ( VAG1552 ) and with "Address word" 01 select ECM (with engine idling), Scan Tool, connecting → Scan Tool VAS5051 , connecting .

- Press buttons 0 and 2 for function "Check DTC memory" and confirm entry with Q button.
- Press → button until all DTC still stored have appeared and the display reads:
- Press buttons 0 and 5 for function "Erase DTC memory" and confirm entry with Q button.
Indicated on display:
| Rapid data transfer → DTC memory is erased! |
- If the fault memory will not erase there is a fault still in the system and this must be rectified.
NOTE:
- If ignition is turned off between "Check DTC memory" and "Erase DTC memory" DTC memory will not be erased.
- Set readiness code → Readiness code, setting , if DTC memory was erased.
- Press → button.
