Vehicle Speed Sensor -VSS- (vehicles with 01M transmission), checking

Recommended special tools and equipment
- 10-222A engine support bridge with 10-222A-1 bracket for engine
- V.A.G 1331 torque wrench (5 to 50 Nm)
Requirements
- Selector lever must be in -P- position.
- Parking brake must be engaged or else daylight driving lights will be switched on.
- Ignition switched off.
Work procedure
- First determine whether a coded radio is installed. In this case, determine the anti-theft coding.
- Switch ignition off and disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Remove battery.
- Remove battery holder.
- Remove air filter. Refer to Air filter (vehicles with engine code AFP), disassembling and assembling , disassembling and assembling air filter (vehicles with engine code AFP).
- Position 10-222A engine support bridge with 10-222A/1 brackets as shown and support engine/transmission in this position.
- Remove bracket for power steering pressure line.
- Remove mounting bolts (arrows) from transmission holder.
- Unscrew mounting bolts -arrows- for pendulum support and remove pendulum support.
- Lower transmission approx. 60 mm -dimension a-.
- Unscrew mounting bolt and remove sensor -1- from transmission.
- Disconnect harness connector from Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G68-.
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
- Replace O-ring.
- Install sensor and tighten to 10 Nm.
Tightening torques of transmission holder and of pendulum support:

- Erase DTC memory of Transmission Control Module (TCM). Refer to Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data
