EPC warning lamp (malfunction lamp for power accelerator activation) in instrument cluster, significance

"EPC" is an abbreviation and stands for Electronic Power Control.

Engine Control Module (ECM) checks all components that are important for function of the EPC system after ignition is switched on.

If malfunctions are recognized in the EPC system during operation of the engine, the ECM switches on the EPC warning lamp in instrument cluster. (These malfunctions are listed in the DTC table). An entry is made in DTC memory at the same time.

Function test:

Switch on ignition:

EPC warning lamp must light up.

If EPC indicator lamp does not light when ignition is switched on:

Check instrument cluster and EPC warning lamp as follows:

Refer to 01 ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD)

If EPC warning lamp does not light when ignition is switched on, continue test as follows:

Start engine and let run at idle:

EPC warning lamp must go out after a few seconds.

If EPC warning lamp does not go out:

Check DTC memory, repair any malfunctions and then erase DTC memory. Refer to DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM), checking (scan tool function 02) and erasing (scan tool function 05) , Erasing and checking DTC memory.
Read readiness code. Refer to Readiness code, checking . If DTC memory was erased or the Engine Control Module (ECM) was disconnected from continuous B+ supply, readiness code must be re-generated. Refer to Readiness code, generating .
