Engine codes AEG, AVH, AZG, BEV

1 - 100 Nm 

• Use counterhold 3415 to loosen and tighten

2 - Camshaft sprocket 

3 - Seal 

• Replacing. Refer to Camshaft oil seal, replacing 

4 - Woodruff key 

• Check for secure seating

5 - 20 Nm 

6 - Bearing cap 

• Installation position. Refer to Valve seats, reworking  and Figure
• Installation sequence. Refer to Engine code BBW  , removing and installing camshaft
• Coat contact surfaces of bearing cap 1 lightly with sealing compound AMV 174 004 01.

7 - Camshaft 

• Checking axial clearance. See Figure .
• Removing and installing. Refer to Engine code BBW 
• Check radial clearance with Plastigage, Wear limit: 0.1 mm
• Run-out: max. 0.05 mm

8 - Hydraulic lifter 

• Do not interchange
• With hydraulic valve clearance compensation
• Checking. Refer to Hydraulic lifters, checking 
• Store with cam contact surface downward

• Before installing check camshaft axial clearance. Refer to Valve seats, reworking  and Figure
• Oil contact surface

9 - Keepers 

10 - Valve spring upper plate 

11 - Valve spring 

• Removing and installing, Cylinder head removed: with 2037; Cylinder head installed: Refer to Valve stem seals, replacing  , Replacing valve stem seals

12 - Valve stem seal 

• Replace. Refer to Valve stem seals, replacing 

13 - Valve guide 

• Checking. Refer to Valve guides, checking 
• Replace. Refer to Valve guides, replacing 
• Repair version with shoulder

14 - Cylinder head 

• Reworking sealing surface. See Figure .
• Reworking valve seats. Refer to Valve seats, reworking 

15 - Valves 

• Do not rework, only lapping is permitted
• Valve dimensions. Refer to Valve seats, reworking
