Needle bearing (polygon bearing) for right flanged shaft, replacing: Removing

Remove center and right sections of sound insulation below engine/transmission, if installed.
Turn steering as far as possible toward right.
If installed, remove shielding plate for drive axle from bevel gear transfer case.
Disconnect drive axle from flanged shaft.

Tie up drive axle as far away as possible. This ensures that drive axle paint is not damaged.

Vehicles with 4-cylinder engine

Remove drive axle → 40 FRONT SUSPENSION .

Continuation for all vehicles

Place appropriate receptacle underneath transmission.
Remove bolt for right flanged shaft using socket V.A.G 1669 or 6 mm socket insert (commercially available).

Mount extractor T10037 onto right flanged shaft.
Align extractor parallel to flange using knurled nut T10037/1 and lower support - A -.
Pull out flanged shaft.

Assemble assembly tool T10047 as follows:

Arrange both parts of tool so that marks "B" face each other.

The sections - arrows - must then be located under the bearing.

Screw both halves together until they stop.

Remove circlip - A - for bearing.
Rotate shaft during pressing so that bearing contact surface on shaft is not damaged - arrow -.
