Left flanged shaft seal, replacing: Removing

- Remove wheel.
- Remove center and left sections of sound insulation below engine/transmission, if installed → 66 EXTERIOR EQUIPMENT .
- Turn steering toward left.
- Unscrew drive axle from flanged shaft.
- Mark installation position of bolts - 1 - from ball joint to control arm.
- Remove bolts - 1 - → 40 FRONT SUSPENSION .
- Tie up drive axle as far away as possible. This ensures that drive axle paint is not damaged.
- Unscrew securing bolt for flanged shaft by threading two bolts into flange and counterholding flanged shaft using a lever.
- Place appropriate receptacle underneath transmission.
- Pull out flanged shaft with compression spring.
- Pull out seal for flanged shaft using slide hammer VW 771 and 771/37 pulling hook.
