Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

- VAG1551 scan tool with VAG1551/3 adapter cable
NOTE:
The VAG1552 scan tool can be used instead of VAG1551, but print-outs are only possible with VAG1551; VAG1552 does not have an on-board printer.
- Connect VAG1551 or VAG1552 scan tool.
- Start engine and let run at idle.
- Press buttons -0- and -1- to select the "Engine Electronics" address word 01.
If the engine cannot be started:
- Switch ignition on.
To continue:
- Press "PRINT" button to switch on scan tool printer.
"PRINT" button must light up.
Indicated on display
- Operate scan tool according to directions on display.
- Press buttons -0- and -2- to select the "Check DTC Memory" function 02.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.
Indicated on display (number of DTCs stored)
or
"No DTC recognized"
If one or more DTCs are stored, they will be displayed and printed one after another.

NOTE:
The scan tool is required for additional DTC checks, so leave the engine running and the scan tool connected.
- Eliminate malfunctions related to each DTC, as specified by DTC table. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) TABLE .
- Afterward, erase DTC memory, see ERASE DTC MEMORY (SCAN TOOL FUNCTION 05) .
- Create readiness code, see READINESS CODE, SETTING (M.Y. 1997) .
- Display readiness code, see READINESS CODE, DISPLAYING .
If DTC memory has been erased:
- Create readiness code again, see READINESS CODE, SETTING (M.Y. 1997) .
If no DTC is stored:
- Press ==> button.

- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End Output" function 06.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.
