NOTE:
- Cylinder heads with cracks between the valve seats may be used without reducing engine life, provided the cracks are small and not more than 0.5 mm wide.
1 - Bearing cap

2 - 20 Nm
3 - Camshaft
- Checking axial play Camshaft axial play, checking
- Removing and installing. Refer to Camshaft, removing and installing
- Checking radial clearance with Plastigage, Wear limit: 0.11 mm
- Run-out: max. 0.01 mm

4 - Valve lifter
- Do not interchange
- With hydraulic valve clearance compensation
- Checking. Refer to Hydraulic valve lifters, checking
- Place on running surface when setting down
- Before installing, check camshaft axial play Camshaft axial play, checking
- Lubricate contact surface

7 - Valve spring
- Removing and installing: Cylinder head removed: Installed with valve spring compressor 2037 : Refer to Valve stem seals, replacing
8 - Valve stem seal
- Replace. Refer to Valve stem seals, replacing
9 - Valve guide
- Checking. Refer to Valve guides, checking
- Replace. Refer to Valve guides, replacing
- Repair guide with shoulder
10 - Oil seal
- Note different versions
- To remove and install, remove bearing cap
- Toothed belt, removing and installing. Refer to Toothed belt, removing, installing and tensioning
- PTFE version of oil seal
- Identification: no inner coil spring
- Do not add oil or grease sealing lip of sealing ring
- Before installing, remove oil remains from camshaft journal with a clean cloth.
- To install, tape over groove on cone of the camshaft (e.g. scotch tape)
