NOTE:
- If a vehicle that has a drive shaft removed is to be moved, an outer CV joint must be installed in place of the drive shaft and be tightened to 50 Nm. Otherwise, the wheel bearing will be damaged.
- Welding and straightening operations are not permitted on load-bearing or wheel-controlling components.
- Always replace self-locking nuts.
- Always replaced corroded bolts/nuts.
1 - Driveshaft
- For special model "Golf GTI 132 kW"
- Pulling axle shaft out from wheel hub and pressing in → Removing and installing axle shafts → Drive shafts, removing and installing
2 - Driveshaft
- Pulling axle shaft out from wheel hub and pressing in → Removing and installing axle shafts → Drive shafts, removing and installing
3 - Speed sensor
4 - Internal hex head bolt, 10 Nm
5 - Suspension strut
6 - Hex head bolt
- Replace each time it is removed
- Tip of the bolt must point in direction of travel
7 - Tie rod end
8 - Nut, self-locking
- 60 Nm and turn additional 90 °
- Never less than 90 ° !
- Turning angle tolerance 90 ° to 120 °
- Replace each time it is removed
9 - Self-locking hex nut, 45 Nm
- Replace each time it is removed
10 - Wheel bearing housing
For vehicles:
- With gasoline engines up to and including 92 kW
- With SDI/TDI engine
11 - Ball joint
- Checking → Ball joint, checking
- Removing and installing → Ball joint, removing and installing
12 - Self-locking hex nut, 45 Nm
- Replace each time it is removed
13 - Shield plate
14 - Hex head bolt, 10 Nm
15 - Hex head bolt
- For special model "Golf GTI 132 kW"
- Fastening
- Replace each time it is removed
16 - Self-locking 12-point nut
- Fastening
- Replace each time it is removed
17 - Phillips head screw, 4 Nm
18 - Ventilated brake disc
19 - Wheel hub with speed sensor rotor
- Rotor is welded to wheel hub
- Removing and installing when the wheel bearing housing is installed → Front wheel bearing, pressing out and in with wheel bearing housing installed
20 - Circlip
- Ensure it is seated properly
21 - Wheel bearing
- Pressing out Pressing wheel bearing out of wheel bearing housing
- Replace, as it is destroyed during pressing out
- Pressing in Pressing wheel bearing into wheel bearing housing
- Removing and installing when the wheel bearing housing is installed → Front wheel bearing, pressing out and in with wheel bearing housing installed
