Steering wheel, removing and installing

NOTE: The steering wheel from 03.98 and up differs from older versions merely by the procedure for removing and installing the airbag.

Remove driver airbag unit. See DRIVER'S AIRBAG UNIT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING UP TO 02.98 or DRIVER'S AIRBAG UNIT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING FROM 03.98 AND UP .
NOTE: When removing and installing steering wheel the steering wheel must be in center position (wheels in straight-ahead position).
Remove bottom part of steering column trim -6-.
Pull foam tube -7- off connector -8- and disconnect connector.
Remove nut -4- and pull steering wheel off steering column 50 N.m (37 ft lb).
Airbag Spiral Spring -F138- -9- remains on steering wheel.
