Dual-Tone Horn System Checking

Use tester VAG 1466 when troubleshooting dual-tone horn system!

Test conditions:

Troubleshooting preparations:

  1. Remove dual horn relay (J 4  ), stamped with production control number 53, from relay position 11.
  2. Insert test adaptor VAG 1466/3 into relay position 11.
  3. Connect VAG 1466/3 to test adaptor.
  4. Switch ignition ON 

Test procedure information:

  1. Perform test steps according to Dual-Tone Horn System Troubleshooting  table.
  2. If specified value/test result is obtained, continue troubleshooting with next test step (test result OK  ).
  3. If specified value/test result is not obtained, locate and eliminate malfunction using table.
  4. Use valid wiring diagram for checking wiring.
  5. Remove all test wires from sockets of VAG 1466 after each test step.

IF MALFUNCTION HAS NOT BEEN ELIMINATED AFTER PERFORMING TEST STEPS 1 THROUGH 3, REPLACE DUAL HORN RELAY (J 4)! 

After repairing malfunction, check dual-tone horn system for proper operation.

Dual-Tone Horn System Troubleshooting

Socket assignment VAG 1466:
Red wire
from 4 to S+ from 4 to S+ from 8 to 2
Black wire from S- to L+ from S- to L+ -
Blue wire from L- to 2 From L- to 6 -
Additional work: - Press horn button ( ) -
Specified value/
Test result:
Indicator lamp L (green) lights up Indicator lamp L (green) lights up Dual-tone horn (H 1  ) sounds
Possible Causes If Specified Value/Test Result Is Not Obtained

Wiring from fuse/relay panel to component: - H 1/6  to

A 1/7  to H1

A 1/8  to H1
