Front Pads: Installation

  1. Siphon small amount of brake fluid from reservoir. Push piston into caliper bore. Check position of piston. Position is correct if recess in piston is facing bottom of caliper and against rotation of disc when vehicle is moving forward.
  2. Install noise damping plate so that lugs on back of plate engage in piston recess. Install brake pads. Use new spreader spring. Install retaining pins.


  1. Press piston into bore of caliper housing. Clean surfaces of caliper housing that will touch pads. Install noise damping plates with arrows pointing upward. Install brake pads and spreader spring. Install retaining pins with NEW circlips.
  2. If brake hose brackets were moved, ensure that there is minimum distance of 1" (25 mm) between hose and tire at all times. Turn wheels full left and right to check clearance. If necessary, correct clearance by bending bracket.


  1. Seat piston fully into cylinder bore by hand or using Piston Compressor (US 1023/4). Attach retaining springs to pad carrier. Install inner pad first and then install outer pad in carrier.
  2. Install caliper housing into pad carrier. DO NOT  force caliper any further than necessary to start Allen head mounting bolts. Excessive force could distort springs, which would cause noises during braking. Tighten mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 N.m).
