Transaxle Reassembly: Notes
- Mesh mainshaft and drive pinion and support. See Fig 1
. Place in a press and, using a sleeve type driver that applies pressure only to mainshaft bearing inner race, press gear carrier down onto gear train.
- With pressure from press still applied, install new circlip on mainshaft. Using same tool in press, push circlip down until it snaps into groove. Release press and squeeze circlip into bottom groove with a pair of pliers.
- With shift forks correctly adjusted, tighten shift fork set screws and reverse lever support union nut. Install original shims on pinion bearing or new shims if pinion depth has been adjusted.
- Position new carrier gasket on transaxle case studs. Position gear train in case. Install a new shim and retaining ring onto pinion (large threaded roller bearing). Tighten ring to 160 ft. lbs. (217 N.m), back off, then retighten to same specification.
- Install and tighten gear carrier nuts in a diagonal pattern. Install selector link, bracket and link shaft. Tighten bolts. Install shift housing using new gasket. Make sure rocker lever and selector finger engages selector shafts correctly. Tighten shift housing bolts.
