1ST Gear One-Way Clutch: Reassembly

  1. Install lower circlip in groove of outer race. If necessary, heat outer race to 300-390°F (150-200°C) and set roller cage on ice. Place roller cage into outer race with 2 pair of pliers. See Fig 1 .
  2. If necessary, turn roller cage slightly, immediately after installing, to locate it properly against the outer race.
    NOTE: During installation, heat from outer race will transfer quickly to roller cage, causing cage to stick inside race. If page is incorrectly positioned against lower circlip, do not attempt to press into position after cage has stuck. Carefully knock cage out. Repeat procedure again after race has cooled down.
  3. Install upper circlip. Install rollers and springs into cage. Be sure that guide lug on springs (if so equipped) is pointed toward roller.
