Pistons, Pins, & Rings: Cylinders: Removal
- With cylinder heads removed, mark pistons and cylinder sleeves with matching numbers. Note arrow on crown of piston points toward flywheel. Note bosses on cylinder sleeves face each other. Place either No. 4 or No. 2 piston (at pulley end of crankshaft) at TDC.
- Pull out cylinder sleeve with slide hammer and Clamping Puller (3092) until piston pin clip is visible. Reach through water jacket opening in cylinder cover portion of crankcase and remove pin circlip. Remove pin with Piston Pin Puller/Installer (3091) or small slide hammer.
- Remove piston and cylinder sleeve. Piston and sleeve at pulley end of crankshaft must be removed before removing piston and cylinder sleeve at flywheel end of crankshaft. Remove rubber sealing rings from cylinder sleeve. Clean all scale deposits and sealing compound from cylinder head and crankcase surfaces.
