Pistons, Pins, & Rings: Cylinders: Installation
- Put new rubber sealing rings on sleeve. Thick Black ring always goes at base of sleeve (by crankcase) while thin Green ring always goes at top of sleeve (by cylinder head). Piston and sleeve assemblies at flywheel end of crankshaft (No. 1 or No. 3) must be installed first on each side of engine.
- Compress piston rings and install piston into sleeve. Check that arrow on piston crown points to flywheel end of crankshaft. Gap of oil scraper (bottom) ring must be on upper side of installed piston. Gaps of rings must be offset by 180°. Install circlip for pin in flywheel side of piston.
- Mount Connecting Rod Support (3090) on lower center head stud. Note "L" and "R" markings on support for left and right side usage. Use finger of connecting rod support to hold connecting rod up. Secure support with rubber band so it cannot move. Align connecting rod with so piston pin can be installed through hole in housing.
- Make sure pin is not galled. Install piston pin with puller/installer and insert circlip. Make sure piston and rod move freely on pin. Push cylinder sleeve into crankcase opening until it bottoms out. Install the cylinder head with proper sealant. See CYLINDER HEAD Installation. Install remaining parts in reverse order of removal.
