Removal & Installation

  1. Remove drive belt(s) and pulley. If pulley is single "V" belt type, hold flywheel/drive plate through hole in crankcase while loosening or tightening pulley bolt. If pulley is triple "V" belt type (vehicles with A/C and power steering), use Crankshaft Lock (3102).
  2. Crankshaft lock fits into smaller hole on triple pulley and bolt hole in which bolt that connects right mount and engine carrier is located. Small hole on pulley must be up when loosening bolt and down when tightening bolt. Bolt between engine carrier and right mount must be removed to allow lock installation.
  3. Pry seal out, being careful not to damage crankcase. Remove sealing "O" ring from crankshaft snout. To install new seal on single pulley engine, coat seal lips with oil. Use Seal Installer (3088) and pulley bolt without washer to start seal into case. When seal is started, remove bolt and put washer on bolt. Tighten bolt with washer until stop is reached.
  4. On engines with triple pulley, coat seal lips with oil. Install with Seal Installer (3088) and bolt without washer. Tighten bolt until stop is reached. On both types, remove bolt and installer. Install pulley with new sealing "O" ring. Keep crankshaft from turning and tighten bolt.
