Distributor Drive Installation
- Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 piston is at TDC. Crankshaft pulley TDC mark must line up with centerline of case halves. Install 2 drive thrust washers with screwdriver and align with base hole in case. Slide drive into case with small segment closer to water pump.
- Slot on top of drive must point to bolt just behind and right of water pump flange. See Fig 1. Line of slot will be almost parallel to centerline of case halves. Take care not to damage soft teeth of brass drive gear on crankshaft. Put small spring into top of drive.
NOTE: Small segment faces water pump.
- Align mark on distributor rotor with notch on lip of distributor housing. This is No. 1 position of distributor. Slide distributor into crankcase, making sure that lugs on bottom of distributor mate with slot on top of drive. Tighten 8 mm nut on distributor hold-down clamp.
