Rear Axle Shaft Bearing & Grease Seal: Removal

  1. Remove brake drum and wheel hub. Remove brake line from wheel cylinder and remove brake backing plate. Remove axle shaft from constant velocity joint. Remove bearing housing from trailing arm.
  2. Press shaft from bearing housing using Removal Tool (VW411). Using screwdriver, pry grease seals from bearing housing. Remove inner race of outer wheel bearing. Remove spacer sleeve.
  3. Using a brass drift, drive outer bearing from bearing housing. Press out inner wheel bearing with Removal Tools (VW412 and VW244b).
