Component Disassembly & Reassembly: Differential: Disassembly

  1. Remove ring gear bolts and drive ring gear off differential housing with a punch. Remove differential cover with a slide hammer. Remove side gears and thrust washers from housing and cover.
  2. If necessary, remove roller bearing using a press and supports. Drive out pinion shaft lock pin. Drive pinion shaft out of differential housing. Remove pinion gears, spacer and thrust washer.
